Some Marijuana Delivery Companies Aren’t Following The Rules

Ordering from a marijuana delivery company..it’s as simple as ordering a pizza.

Throughout California, now you can have marijuana delivered to your door within minutes. However, some marijuana delivery companies are working illegally and could be delivering weed to underage kids.

“That’s obviously disturbing,” said Detective Vito Ceccia of the LAPD’s Gang and Narcotics Enforcement Division. “Because these individuals are profit-driven, they could care less about anyone’s well-being or welfare.”

What to know:

  • The California Bureau of Cannabis Control outlines several rules that marijuana delivery services must follow

  • Laws include inspection of a ID to confirm the recipient is over 21

Acting on tips from concerned parents, an undercover group ordered bud from seven delivery companies which are listed on the popular internet site Weedmaps.

The California Bureau of Cannabis Control says delivery businesses must physically inspect an ID before handing over pot to guarantee that the customer is over 21, the legal age to purchase recreational bud in California.

One of the members of the undercover group, a young woman, received the delivery order. Not one of the seven businesses ever asked our intern to observe an ID to confirm she was over 21.

“I did not even have to show you my ID,” the young woman informed the motorist from a company called Best Buds.

“No, it is cool,” the driver responded.

The motorist for a different company, known as Pronto Puff, didn’t even see a human being delivering the order of marijuana. He slipped the pot through the email slot at a house.

The chance of underage kids readily getting bud from delivery firms worries doctors and researchers who are studying marijuana.

“When you introduce the growing mind to marijuana, we see agitated delirium, we see psychosis,” states Dr. Roneet Lev, that sits on a task force that’s studied the effects of pot on people under 25.

“You’re stunting the growth of your brain,” if you use cannabis before age 25 when the brain is fully developed, Dr. Lev says.

Six out of seven delivery companies the undercover group ordered from seem to be working illegally. They didn’t have the mandatory license issued from the state.

It’s the job of the LAPD to shut down marijuana related companies that aren’t following the law. However, the LAPD admits, so far, it is only focused its efforts on physical bud stores rather than on the flourishing business of bud delivery services.

“It is certainly an issue that has to be addressed along with the LAPD will not ignore it,” detective Ceccia says.

Buying cannabis from an unlicensed shop can be dangerous for many reasons. One main reason being that because they do not  comply with state regulations, the bud that they are selling is not tested for pesticides or other harmful chemicals. The flower that they sell could have various cancer causing chemicals in it.

All licensed shops and marijuana delivery companies are required by law to only carry products that have been lab tested. Sure, you might save a few dollars buying from a black market shop, but is it worth the health and security risk?
